SOUTHERN INDUSTRIAL CONSTRUCTORS / SOUTHERN CRANE OFFICIALS TO GIVE SAFETY PRESENTATIONS AT UPCOMING INDUSTRY TRAINING
RALEIGH – After Southern Industrial Constructors / Southern Crane was given a “Rigging Job of the Year” award by the Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association (SC&RA), two of the company’s leaders have been invited to speak about important safety issues at a conference.
Earl Johnson III, president of Southern Crane, will discuss the proper hydraulic set-up of a crane during a breakout session at the 2007 SC&RA Crane and Rigging Workshop taking place in Kansas City Sept. 20-22. He will demonstrate proper techniques associated with crane set-up, including ground conditions and crane assembly, and cover hydraulic and all-terrain cranes.
Phil Hooper, vice president of safety and risk management, will discuss “near misses and lessons learned.” He will cover the importance of reporting and tracking near misses, and how to implement loss-prevention techniques to avoid incidents in the future.
Southern Industrial / Southern Crane has been a partner with SC&RA and a member since 1966.
“We strongly support this organization and its efforts to incorporate best-practice safety techniques throughout our industry,” Johnson said. “Safety is one topic you can never emphasize enough, and we are honored that the SC&RA feels Southern Industrial Constructors and Southern Crane can serve as a resource about safety to our peers. We look forward to sharing and learning more ourselves.”
SC&RA represents 1,200 members in 44 nations. Most of its members are contractors who provide specialized transportation, machinery moving and erecting, plant installations and relocations, industrial construction and plant maintenance, crane and rigging operations and equipment rental. SC&RA seeks to help members operate efficient and safe businesses by monitoring and affecting state and national legislation and regulations; researching and reporting on safety and best practices issues; and hosting forums where industry issues are advanced.
Founded in 1962, Southern Industrial Constructors and its wholly owned company, Southern Crane, provide a wide range of services throughout the Southeast, including turnkey industrial construction, industrial electrical construction, turnkey plant installations and relocations, plant maintenance, specialized metal fabrication, and crane and rigging service. Because of its exemplary safety record, Southern Industrial is among the few companies in the state recognized as a STAR contractor by the N.C.
