Carolina Star Program

Southern Industrial Constructors (SIC) is a proud participant in the North Carolina Department of Labor’s Carolina Star Program, which is designed to recognize and promote safety and health management systems.

Through Carolina Star, workplaces with strong safety programs establish cooperative relationships between management, labor, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

The Star Process

The program recognizes worksites that can self-sufficiently control safety hazards. Becoming a Carolina Star participant shows our employees and the community that our workplace is a leader in safety and health.

To ensure success, each project participant is engaged in workplace safety in different ways:

  • Management agrees to operate an effective program according to an established set of safety criteria.
  • Employees agree to participate in the program and to work with management to help ensure workplace health and safety.
  • OSHA verifies the workplace’s safety program meets Carolina Star criteria. They publicly recognize the site’s exemplary safety program and remove it from routine scheduled inspection lists. OSHA may still investigate major accidents, fatalities, valid formal employee complaints, and chemical spills.

Our Participation

We are currently working, on a permanent basis, at three STAR sites - GE Aircraft Engines in Research Triangle Park, NC; GE Aircraft Engines, Wilmington, NC; and GE Nuclear, Wilmington, NC. We also work on a project basis and on an as-needed basis at other STAR sites.
